Handsome Frank Tweet A Brief

July 10, 2012

My agents Handsome Frank came up with a brilliant concept for an exhibition featuring all the illustrators on their books titled Tweet A Brief. They invited their Twitter followers to Tweet a brief for an illustration they’d always wanted to see, the prize, a print of the Illustration and an invitation to the private view of the exhibition.

There were lots of brilliant briefs tweeted so we had a great variety to choose from.

The endevours of my fellow Handsome Frankians can been seen from 13th – 22nd July  at The Church of London’s gallery space 71a Leonard St , London EC2A

Heres a overview from Design Week with a sneaky peek of some of the work

Theres’ also a talk by some of the illustrators at the gallery on july 18th, details here.

I’ll blog about my piece next week so watch this space!

Inspiration at Home

March 29, 2012

For my inaugural blog post I’ve rounded up some of my favourite sites and blogs from around the web.

At the moment I have a broken leg so I’m doing a bit more chair surfing than usual!

Here are 5 places to go for inspiration and eye candy, more to come very soon!

Wiki Paintings

A brilliant archive of artists and paintings. I’ve found lots of artists that are new to me here. (Thanks to Andrew Lyons @kerinjo for alerting me!)

Atticus and Finch
An interesting blog written by a London based stylist and writer –The Finch (not quite sure who Atticus is!) She covers lots of design/art/lifestyle topics.

Deyrolle
Deyrolle is a magical shop situated in the 7th Arrondissment of Paris.
It’s a cornucopia of taxidermy, insects and butterflies; there are lions and giraffes dotted around and amazing cabinets of curiosity.

The website is in French but I think the photos speak for themselves, there’s also an online shop with some great posters. One day soon I hope to visit and walk amongst the animals in person (leg permitting!!)

The Brickhouse
The Tumblr site of Morgan Satterfield. A wonderful collection of photos for people who (according to Morgan) enjoy modern design and frugality; home renovation projects; and style. I want to live in every house featured!

Bookshelf Porn
Does exactly what is says! (Main image)

Introducing Earl

March 29, 2012

I’d like to introduce you to my 4-legged companion, Earl. He is very much part of the family and one of the main reasons I get to walk in the countryside around my area of South Manchester.

He’s definitely NOT allowed in my studio though as he loves to raid the paper bin and run off with random pieces of paper, which he then likes to eat. Once when someone left the studio door ajar he sneaked in and ate a piece of particularly complicated artwork. As you can imagine he was dog non grata for a while!

We first met him when he was 5 days old and totally fell in love with him. I can remember saying to his breeder over the next few weeks before he came to live with us, “He doesn’t do much does he?” How wrong I was!

He’s a constant supply of laughs and mischief and loves nothing more than stealing socks, underwear (especially bras) and other dogs’ tennis balls. Oh, and he’s kind of the reason I have a broken leg at the moment!
